Victor Pasmore
British artist Edwin John Victor Pasmore pioneered the abstract movement in Britain in the 1940s and 1950s.
Midway through his career, Pasmore abandoned visually representative painting in favour of focusing on structural, abstracted works which have come to define him as an artist.
Pasmore's abstract works capture bright yet undefined shapes. His creations are unconstrained by the space allotted to them; splashes, spots and streaks often bursting from the square or rectangle that attempts to confine them.
“I felt the picture has to be an independent object in its own right, not a representation of another object”
